Three people enjoying a hot tub enclosed by a wooden fence. They are smiling and appear to be passing a blue ball to one another. The background features greenery and a clear blue sky. The water is clear, and they are sitting in the built-in seats of the hot tub.

Hot Tub versus Lay Z Spa?

View all blog posts

We have customers asking us on a daily basis “Do we fix lay z spas?” and the answer every time is “Sorry, we don’t repair inflatables but you could try contacting the manufacturer?”. Therefore, we are aware of how popular they are as well as the issues a Lay Z Spa can bring, so, we thought it was time to do a mini comparison of the two!

  1. Price: Lay Z Spas are more affordable, prices start from £300, so, they are good value family entertainment over the summer days, whereas, regular hot tubs can be from £4,000. However, hot tubs generally provide lower running costs overall due to energy efficient features, such as, the foam inside the spa cabinet which helps them to retain their heat so that they can be used all year round.
  2. Installation & Setup: Lay Z Spas are far easier to install and transport compared to hot tubs, which need some planning in order to select a fixed location and to work out the running power for it.
  3. Maintenance: When it comes to maintenance, lay z spas and hot tubs aren’t too dissimilar, both require the filter to be cleaned on a regular basis and need chemical treatment in order to keep the pH at a healthy level to deter unwanted bacterial growth.
  4. Features: Hot tubs offer quality insulation, seats and loungers which provide you with more comfort and support, and some come with built-in lights and bluetooth speakers. Also, there are water jets that transform the water into a whirlpool like experience with some offering in-home hydrotherapy with well-positioned massage jets that target your neck, backs and legs.
  5. Durability: Hot tubs are built to last with their hard shells and can be a permanent fixture in your garden, whereas lay z spas can puncture easily and often need their parts replaced.

Conclusion

Although a hot tub is a higher initial investment, depending on your usage, it may be more economical to run and they are built to last for the long-term.
